The Pilgrim

Trudging on the road of silence
With gumption to break the chaotic fence
Under long imbibed saintly pretence
Found the self, mottled with mystic presence.

Remembering the stars and moon
Twinkling eyes and inviting faces
Deep down under the woody base
Lies the serpent breathing sizzling fires.

Alive and jolly at the height of folly
Under the widowed facade fell in to a gully
Saw glittering pearls and emeralds
Collected all to find sickeningly vile.

Florentine Monalisa dead and reborn
Knowing the secrets of grave and womb
Sniggers at Vincenzo's lust to capture
With sands escaping my fist's sequester.
